Palo Santo is a mystical tree that grows on the coast of South America. It is related to Frankincense, Myrrh and Copal. In Spanish, the name literally translates to, “Holy Wood”.

It is an aromatic wood used for centuries by the Incas and other cultures as a spiritual remedy. Used for incense and smudging, it creates a pleasant, fresh smelling smoke with hints of mint, pine, and citrus (notably lemon) with underlying notes of frankincense.

Thought to purge bad spirits, it is also said that it enhances creativity and brings good fortune. Size of sticks may vary between 3.5″ to 4.5″ and comes in a pack of six sticks.

Palo Santo is enjoyed by many for its energetically cleansing and healing properties similar to Sage and Cedar. It is a strong medicine that has been popularized for its heavenly presence in keeping energies grounded and clear.

It is alleged to be great for calming the immune and nervous systems for faster recovery of illness, making it ideal for calming anxieties.

To burn a palo santo stick just light the tip then blow it out. Afterwards, you can either wave it in the air or place it in a glass or metal container (one that will not burn) with sand or salt placed therein to hold the smudge upright. To extinguish, invert stick into the sand or salt to smother.
